How To: Rear (Jump) seat removal

One of the things that I wanted to do to my brand new 2009 ranger was remove these seats. I am still not sure what I am going to do in the space, but here is the directions for removing the seats. The removal took about 1/2 hour per side, give or take. If you have access to air tools, it may be even quicker.

Seat prior to working on it

Tools that you will need:
Torx T50
1/2" socket
Socket Driver w/ extensions
Trim clip removal tool

Step 1: Remove the plastic Trim clip, then remove the larger piece of trim. It will pull off the metal base of the seat by pulling towards the front of the truck.

Step 2: Remove the two screws as shown in the photo. One is the Torx screw, the rest will be the 1/2" screws, This is easier to do with the seat folded down away from the back wall.

Step 3: Remove the 1/2" screw from the other side (towards the middle of the truck) of the metal mount.

Step 4: Fold the seat back to the stored position. You will be able to see two 1/2" screws underneath the seat and on top of the metal mounting plate. Remove these also.

Step 5: Carefully remove the seat. Notice that you DO NOT have to remove the seatbelt mechanism as it is attached to the metal mount that you have now removed.

I am not sure what I am going to do for the "ugly" areas where the seats were sitting. Once I figure it out, I will post my solution here.

If you have any questions, please let me know

You could custom build a sub box for the area

Thanks for the pics! I am thinking about pulling the seats out of my 2001 XLT and this gives me a good place to start. Like STL suggested I plan to use the space for a sub/amp mount on one side and a tool/gear box on the other. Right now my e-tool (ideal for digging and vehicle defence!), first aid gear and many, many lights are all rattling around back there while those midget seats go unused.

Was there an option to have a jump seat delete? They are just a waste of space in my mind.
...You would have to be a child to fit back there but a jump seat/car seat doesnt fit. And if they are big enough to not need a jump seat/car seat they are too big to fit.
...Is there some stock plastic trim to cover where the seat would normally be?

The deleted jumpseats would be my first choice.

Hello... Do you want to sell the seats you removed?

Cheers?

I also removed my jump seats. (Clinton has them now)

I'm building a storage box back there to carry all my camera equipment.

That's a great idea!

I was going to put a "vehicle survival kit" in the passenger side, and keep the driver's side for groceries and all of that stuff. I really don't drive many people anyhow.....not many people can fit.

You can not mount a child safety seat to the rear jump seats we have in our rangers. It is unsafe for the child due to the fact that it can fold, and flip up and it does not have a wide enough base to fit a child safety seat. If that is the only vehicle you have to transport your child put them up front, turn your airbag off and make sure the seat is pushed all the way back.

Trust me on this one guys and please do not put a child in a car seat on those fold out rear seats. I am a certified child safety seat inspector for over 6 years now with the NHTSA and safekids world wide. If you need help on where to place your child and their safety seat shoot me a pm, I will be more than glad to help!

A "like" feature or rate feature needs to be added, so we can rate things like this five stars..
