can I put seats in the bed of my ranger?

I met a guy who had 2 bucket seats bolted in the bed of his truck...He said it was street legal here in California but does anyone know the exact law or where i can find it? I was wondering if that may count as obstructing your view?

that is NOT street legal here in cali, unless he had a shell on his truck to cover them. even if they have functioning seat belts its not legal with out a shell to cover them. people riding in seats is similar to people just sitting in the bed, illegal, no matter how you look at it.

I didnt think it looked too safe haha but what about with some sorta roll bar or something? then could that put it in the category of topless jeeps or old broncos?

those vehicles came like that from the factory, nothing the cops can do about it. id go down to the local PD and ask them what the laws are about that in your county

Subaru Brats used to have plastic buckets in back with grab handles. As far as the law it varies by location.

Check out the custom seats in this beast. Met up with these people on some trails a few years ago. Thankfully no one was injured that day.

Legality varies state by state. At a minimum, there will probably be an age minimum, probably matching the age minimum to no longer be required to wear a seatbelt in the back seat.

As far as physically possible, of course. You can bolt anything to the bed, including seats. HOWEVER, simply bolting seats the floor of the bed is very dangerous. It is thin sheet metal and is not designed to hold you in place during a crash. You should put some thicker metal plates or sticks under the bed and bolt through those too. Otherwise the bolts will just tear right out of the bed in a crash. This is obviously only applicable if you have seatbelts installed too. If the seatbelts are not integrated into the seat, then their hardware must be fastened in the same way. If you don't put seatbelts back there, then none of that matters. People will be ejected long before the seats detach.

Personally I would go for a bench seat. Then you can lie down on it too.
