No heat, temp guage shows cold. Ideas?

'01 Ranger Edge 4.0 V-6.

No heat, temp guage shows cold, and the two heater hoses to the firewall seem cold after the truck warms up.

I have read some of the related posts but nothing seems applicable. Would a stuck-shut thermo cause these symptoms?

Thank you!

I did see that thread. It lists everything that could be the cause. I'd like to narrow it down for the particular symptoms I described.
Thank you!

how does the upper rad hose feel? I'm almost wondering if your thermostat is stuck open

The upper and lower radiator hoses are warm, but the two hoses to the firewall are not warm.

are they just warm or hot? on a normal system the upper hose should be hot enough where you can't keep your hand on it. I would pick up a cheap infrared thermometer to check it. Normal operating temp is around 180-200 degrees

I flushed the rad, changed the thermo. All seems to be good now. Thanks for your help guys!
