Has anyone done a pro touring build?

Re: Pro touring
I haven't, but I was once going to go that route with my 2wd. Really, the main things are a drop (lower the better, preferably 4/5 drop), a stiffer front sway bar, and a sway bar kit for the rear. I believe Hellwig makes a kit for our trucks, but I'm not 100% positive. Honestly, suspension makes a bigger difference than power; dont get me wrong, there's always a benefit of hp, but if you take the same truck making 500hp vs say 200hp and do mostly suspension mods to the 200hp, 9 times outta ten the 200hp one will win in a course. Again, driver experience is also a factor, but generally speaking. The hardest thing is turning a brick into a ballet dancer, and suspension mods are the best way to do that. A simple roll cage (4 point) will be beneficial as well to stiffen the frame, or some cross braces. A limited slip as well. I'd prefer a manual trans, that way you can control exactly when you shift and you can compression brake. Wider tires for grip, maybe a higher negative offset/spacers to increase your stability around hairpin turns at higher speed. A couple degrees of negative camber helps as well, but for a daily driver you will eat up tires quickly. I'm sure there are things I've missed or things where my ideas are wrong, but that was my take on it when I was planning to do it.

Re: Pro touring
Well this is what I’m working with nowhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...173496fc89.png.
I’ve got a 302 and t5 that I will be installing soon. I have full djm suspension at the moment but kinda want to try a 4 link or something like that out back and possibly convert the front to a arms. It’s not a daily so I’m trying to make the most out of it. I have a 8.8 with 3.73 refinished with trac loc that I will be installing soon also Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ---------- Also going fuel cell between the frame rails and full carbed setup so I’ll be removing everything electrical and just going simple wiring setup Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Pro touring
Nice! That looks like a great start, you're pretty much already there really. A 4 link would be good paired with adjustable coil overs, to make adjustments and be able to really dial in. What size tires do you have on there now? That's really the only thing I can see that would be an upgrade, aside from the rear sway bar and a little stiffening of the frame. You could look into lightening the interior, if you wanna spend some dough and go all out you can get a fiberglass/carbon fiber race dash from McNeil Racing I believe, strip the interior completely. Looks good though man!

Re: Pro touring
Right now I’m just on the stock 7.5 15” wheels but plan on getting some 16x9 to give more tire options and get the width and sidewall where I want them. I’m a metal fab guy so I build most of my stuff. Will probably go the 4 link route with adjustable coils already have a 3/4 sway bar front and rear from the splash model. May go partial cage in the interior and leave it mostly stock surrounding it. There’s not much in there anyways. But I do need a dash mines cracked and horrible looking.

https://tiresize.com There's the dash, $400 in fiberglass. I also found a set of some 15x10s really cheap way back when, I could post the link to that as well. I also added a link to the tire size calculator that I use to compare tire width, sidewall height, things like that. It also has an offset calculator to sorta visualize what the offset would be. If you could do a build thread on your 4 link thatd be great, I eventually want one on mine but not 100% certain how to do it. Looks great, excited to see the final product. |
Re: Pro touring
I’ll do a thread for sure. I appreciate your input
