Rattling noise from the engine 2008 Ranger V6 3.0L 2WD
Hello,
My 2008 ranger V6 3.0L 102K has rattling noise during cold engine acceleration around 1800 RPM to 2500 RPM. After the engine is warm rattling noise disappear or turn to minimal that could be ignored. No rattling noise when engine is idle. No codes, no knocking, very little valve noise or perhaps a timing chain problem. I haven't had this diagnosed by a mechanic. I bought a stethoscope to listen where the rattling noise coming from and I was able to hear it from multiple spots on the engine, most clearly from the exhaust manifold. Someone else helped me to do this by shifting gear to drive and hold break paddle down and give it a little acceleration. Has anyone had this issue before? I would appreciate any help or advice. Thanks! |
Re: Rattling noise from the engine
If you havent seen the mechanic yet...bad valve. Eventually you will start losing compression and it will behave like it has a misfire

Re: Rattling noise from the engine
I took it to dealership and the technician said that he needs to take the engine apart to know whats going on! He said he never heard this noise before.
I was thinking of bad valve/lifter. Thanks for your reply |
