Oil gauge?

Hi all

I have a 2002 ford ranger 3.0 with 96k miles

Today my oil gauge just quit working I just reads low and will not fluctuate at all.

Was wondering if anyone has any idea what could be the cause

Re: Oil gauge?

Replace the pressure sensor first since that is the easiest.......if that doesn't fix the problem then the gauge cluster is the problem.

I replaced the oil pressure switch around 8months ago, as it was jumping after long drives, I’ve just went and purchased a new oil pressure switch and hope this will fix it.

If this will not fix it what process should I do with the gauge cluster?

Thanks for your knowledge

Just changed the oil pressure switch and still not pressure on the gauge

check the cam syncro as that drives the oil pump and was a known weak spot on the 3.0

Just had a new syncro put in 2 months ago

Can you it a volunteer on the pressure sensor? Are you Absolutely sure you have proper oil pressure?

No I’m not sure I have proper oil pressure as my gauge does not work
But my engine sounds and runs totally fine I’ve driven it over 100 miles since I noticed the gauge not working.

So I would assume that I do have correct pressure as it would have probably blown by now I think.

I will try probing it with a multimeter

Thanks

Sorry, I meant, have you checked it with a voltmeter. Autocorrect!

I haven’t tested it yet but I now seems to want to work whenever it wants too.

I took it for a drive yesterday and it worked when I turned it on then later on the night I took it for another drive and it decided it doesn’t want to work again

Re: Oil gauge?

ground the wire to the sender if the guage does not go to high the guage or wire are at fault

The oil gauge is worthless so I wouldn't get concerned. You are right....if the oil pressure was actually an issue there would be more signs than just a low "idiot gauge" reading.
Best of luck!

Yeah that’s what I thought. She runs fine I’ve done over 200 miles with the gauge not working so she’d be dead now. Was thinking about doing a true oil pressure gauge
