Wheel bolt pattern size question
 

Hello everyone.

I was just checking out the wheel stickies and found a link to this site

http://adaptitusa.com/referencebook.htm

It has wheel sizes and bolt patterns. I know the Ranger pattern is 5x114.3 with a 70.3 center bore (from that website).

What is the 114.3? I see some wheels have the same center bore but a 5x115 bolt pattern. Is this something like 114.3mm? If so I would think .7 of a mm would be close enough to fit. Or is it somehting else?

Bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns can be 4-, 5-, 6-, or 8-lug holes. A bolt circle of 5x114.3 would indicate a 5-lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 114.3mm.

I doubt anything other than 114.5 is going to fit your Ranger.

Thanks for the info beaterpc. I don't like the steel wheels on the new to me Ranger. Very heavy and bad home done black paint job. I'm looking for something much lighter. Maybe something from a Mustang?

You need to source wheels that are 5x114.3 or 5x4.5

All Rangers are lug centric, NOT hub centric. so as long as your spindle fits through, you should have zero issues.

This is true...

But lets rephrase this... As long as your hub fits through, you should have zero issues. So a wheel with 70.5 or larger bore is needed unless OP wants to run spacers.

Will the heavy stock steelie wheels keep the momentum better on highway speeds vs lighter wheels?

Negative. Within a set parameter, The lighter you can make the four corners of the vehicle in unsprung weight the better it will handle, brake, and accelerate.

There is no "momentum" per se` unless you rolled from the top of a hill or accelerated to a certain speed and either let off the gas/took it out of gear until you came to a stop or turned off the engine. Something like that would apply more to a Boy Scouts pinewood derby car.
