Creepy to know they are watching you.

This may have happened to some of you in the past but I was surprised when I got a PM on another Ford Ranger Forum that I subscribe to.

The message was from Ella that claimed she works Diagnostic tool manufactures and wanted to know if I would review a scan tool for their company.

She even indicated that after the first review she may send me other diagnostic tools for review some of which may eventually be "high end" pro level diagnostic tools.

Yes I post many threads on many different forums and normally with the same or similar user name yet I was caught off guard that they contacted me through a forum.

I have heard of companies offering free product samples in exchange for a review on Amazon if you have enough educational reviews posted there.

Yet I never heard of them reaching out to people on forums before.

I took a look at the code reader they will be sending and it looks just like every other inexpensive scan tool that could be purchased for less than 40 bucks.

I am sure it will be one of my most prized tools in my tool box not just because it was free but because how I obtained it.

However once I get done testing it and if it survives I will offer it up to a fellow Ford Ranger owner for free that actually needs it for us to continue helping them with diagnosing their current problem and does not own one already.

Here is a link to the scanner they will be sending.

https://www.amazon.com/Scanner-Topdo.../dp/B074M6KHDH

Its funny the scan tool has 6 reviews and you can tell each and every reviewer must has received this scan tool for free by posting their review.

They specifically asked me to post a review on the other Forum I frequent but I will post one here as well yet you can bet your ass my review will be nothing like the fake reviews found on Amazon if it flat out sucks and does not meet my expectations and does not do what they say it will my review will clearly indicate its deficiency's and or flaws.

This is the list of primary functions that they claim .

If it does each and every function well and can put up with some abuse that I am going to put it through I will be happy to give them a five star review.

Prime Functions
Read DTCs
Clear DTCs
Read MIL
View freeze frame data
I/M readiness monitor status
Display live data stream
O2 sensor data
On-board monitoring test
Read pending codes
Read permanent codes
Read vehicle information
Multilinguil user interface
Internet up gradable

Anyways it is kind of creepy to suspect all along we are being watched, now that I know for sure we are being watched I am not sure what to think.

Moral of this story is watch what you post here because you never know who has their eye on you.

FYI, the user name 'ella' created an account on another forum i'm on doing the same exact thing lol! is this legit? or a scam?

I think it is legit we will see.

These scanners are probably made really inexpensively and will not sell without positive reviews. So they can afford to mail many of them out for free and not hurt their bottom line.

Well if it is a scam all they scammed from me is a email address and shipping address.

Those things they could get without my interaction. LOL

I would say scam for sure if they asked for shipping and handling charges of x amount but they did not ask for anything.

I honestly think it is just a over priced product they are trying to get reviews on to be able to sell the vast inventory of these thing they produced in China

I have seen scanners like these sell for much less on Amazon with the same capabilities.

So the scam would be someone shopping for these code readers and purchase this one over a cheaper unit just because of the reviews.

They're always watching, they never sleep, they make the laws and rules. You can't win.

I hope they send it to you. I wasn't willing to risk my info. If "Ella" had asked me to email her with an address with her company's domain, that would have changed things. Since she used a gmail account, no way am I giving out my info. I am a technology manager by trade; I see way too much of this crap taking place. I already have a scanner, so I don't need another one.

I think we may be reading the same page more than you think.. :)

On a similar note, I live within a mile or two of "Switch" One of the more larger DATA storage (mining) facilities.. Not to many places in life have I seen Militarized personnel holding defensive positions at a 18 foot gates with ridiculous walls sectioning off a double city block long facility X3 and 2 more being built alongside those 3.

Everything we do is on some file, every transaction, bill pay, transaction, key stroke, view, you name it. WE are the commodity.. not the products you think.

Pay with cash.

Burner phones.

Give bogus information when you deem *they* don't need what they are asking for.

VPN/proxy server when online.

There's more, lol. Would be nice to defeat ALPR units on the grounds that using them is contrary to American values and principles. Innocent until proven guilty, NOT collect data on people "just in case" they happen to commit a crime.

Stingray, and IMO that one is pretty sinister. Strange that people (in this forum too) don't believe that one when our own gov't in fact, doesn't deny it (but won't confirm/deny full particulars). Again, evil, it's a data miner, collecting data "just in case" someone commits a crime.
