Trucks sputtering after going on the highway

Was on the highway last night, and the truck lost power while i was at wide open throttle. When i was driving it back home i noticed it was spitting blue flames out of the exhuast when id give it gas (no cats, but still not normal). Its a 1994 3.0 and i pulled codes 118, 122, 998. While driving the tachometer now jumps to where it needs to be instead of moving smooth and the truck randomly shuts off and turns back on while driving, i tried putting in a new coil but it did not help. The code 122 is a low voltage for the tps but i dont think the tps is the issue, i think something else isnt letting enough voltage get to the ignition system and im stumped

Check your alternator for proper charging. How old is your battery? There is also a cable connection outside underneath below the drivers chair, that I have seen where the ground cable is frayed, causing all sorts of gremlins...:driver:

The under the driver seat sounds like a possibilty since was offroad and the truck started acting up for a moment then stopped before i went on the highway. But i tried misting water on the distributor and the truck does run alittle rough when i do it

And the battery is less then 8 months old

I'm not sure on a 94, but if you have a cam synic thats your trouble. and when they break they will lock up your motor. If you have a cam synic you will not have a distributor. It is located passenger side top rear of motor with one wire going to a coil pack.

Well if your truck starts to run rough when mist is introduced, that is also an issue, you must have small fractures in the housing. Typical of things becoming brittle under all that heat...

Ive replaced the distributor cap and rotor, the coil, and i checked the spark plugs. In the fuse box theres a diode that was loose and would cause the engine to cut out a but when tapped so i replaced it and that stopped but i still have a stuttering issue

I now also replaced the plug wires, the tach still sputters with the truck

yes, that diode is used to keep the ALT from back feeding itself. Mine wanders a bit if I am on really bad spur roads.

I think i found my issue, sound like a rocker arm either backed its way out, or snapped off.

And the engine is blown, yay... second one so far. Spun a bearing and i ran it too much before i noticed. And i pretty much tuned up everything i could think of before i noticed 😔

Re: Trucks sputtering after going on the highway

Got a newer 2004 motor from a wrecked ranger in the truck now. Sometimes the motor runs perfect, and other times it idles like it has a lumpy cam. Off the line it has now power (foot to the floor) till about 3,200 rpm when it launches. Its got new plugs and wires, a new throttle position sensor basically everything. It seems to be slowly getting better, dies anybody think i could be from sitting in the junkyard for so long? Like rusty valves not seating all the way? Sometimes it runs and idles perfect so idk
