No crank no start. For PATS sake.
Hey
So my 2001 Ford Ranger 3.0 will not start. No crank no start. The theft light is blinking rapidly. So I'm assuming it's something to do with the PATS. Video of theft light: goo.gl/YJxKPQ I've tried the two keys I have for it. Nothing. I called a Ford Dealership and the mechanic couldn't help me much over the phone, he tried to and we surprised that my fuel pump was kicking in and my relays were clicking. He told me to jumpstart the starter but that didn't work. It made a whining noise and he said it could be bad and to test that. Other than that he said I would just have to get it towed there. Can't really afford that though. The theft light blinking like that must mean there is a problem though... Right? I've not had time to pull the started and get it tested. Any help would be great. I may have missed something very simple, so any advice would help me a lot. |

Theft light means the key isn't programmed.

Are you using cheap aftermarket keys?

Re: No crank no start. For PATS sake.
I really hope that reprogramming the key will work.
Should I just take the keys to Ford? I think one of the keys is the origial, and the other is a cheap one. The cheap one was being used when it stopped working. PATS is not that fun to learn about. So thanks for the help. |
Re: No crank no start. For PATS sake.
Reprogramming the key won't help. The pcm is not getting the signal from the sending unit at the key.Check for bad wires bad or corroded or blown fuses or relays. The pcm must receive a signal from the key to start.

I gave a possible reason for the issue. When the theft light flashes repeatedly when you try to start the vehicle its an immobilization code being thrown, key is not programmed or theres a fault in the system elsewhere. As far as I know its a dealer or anyone with the IDS software fix. Not sure if a locksmith is capable of actually working with the PATS or not. I only know of one way to program keys without the IDS. And it requires 2 working keys to do it. On the older vehicles supposedly you can leave the key on for 15 mins then switch keys and repeat and it programs them but I've never done it so I can't speak for that method. Can't tell you how many times a no start/crank has been caused by a Stratec key Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bummer. Because that means Ford has a lot of pissed off customers and spent valuable $ on warranty and roadside warranty tows.

Re: No crank no start. For PATS sake.
So, y'all think I need to take it to Ford to get it fixed? Bummer. I was really hoping to avoid that.
I was reading a little bit about a tune being able to disable PATS. I really need to do more research into it, but does anyone have any advice or experience in this? |
Re: No crank no start. For PATS sake.
Hop on the http://eectuning.org/forums/ and ask about disabling pats, make sure you tell them you just want to send it out or you will get miles of replies on software and cables and laptops... if you are going to do it just once sending it out is much better.
Hope the link to the specialty board is OK mods, that board is no threat to this one in any way. |

Bluetooth, and pairing/connecting is simple. I use this ELM adapter: http://www.obdlink.com/mxbt/
