Clutch in:No RPM Drop
Has anyone gone through this trouble? When shifting gears, when I push clutch in,rpms do not drop, even sometimes climb. Sometimes when driving in 1st or 2nd gear, cruise control kicks in,even though I have none!!

Re: Clutch in:No RPM Drop
Sounds to me like the throttle cable may be sticking and keeping the throttle open. Check your cables from the pedal to the throttle body and then have a friend pump the gas as you watch under the hood. Just watch the cable pulley dealio up by the throttle body and see if it looks like it gets hung up a bit when he lets off the gas.
Here's my thought process: If you push the clutch in and the RPMs go up, that means youre still giving it gas when you shouldn't be. Either youre riding the gas when you shift and dont realize it or the cable is sticking somewhere and its still getting some throttle that way while you shift. If you have a "cruise control" kicking in w/o having that option installed, you've got whats called "throttle lock". On Army HMMWVs (Humvees) it is used to hold the throttle open to warm the engine up faster. A warning sticker inside says "do not use the throttle lock as a cruise control / throttle will not disengage when brakes are applied" Sounds to me like your cable is sticking somewhere. Fix the cable issue, lose you're "cruise control". problem solved |

Re: Clutch in:No RPM Drop
IAC valve.

Re: Clutch in:No RPM Drop
It was the IACV. I took it out and cleaned it really good. All is well now

Re: Clutch in:No RPM Drop
EGR valve, common on the 4clangers.. cheap fix? try this:
TEST: pull the line off and block the vacuum... then drive the vehicle FIX: take a BB (yes like a BB gun) put it inside the vacuum fitting to EGR and press the vacuum line back on the EGR.. the BB is to large to fall into EGR and to Large to get sucked into engine.. |
