Crazy dome light
On our 2011 Ranger ext cab, the dome lite comes on intermitintly.
Sometimes stays on when doors closed, and sometimes comes on while driving. Dealer supposedly replaced the two door switches. Is there a relay that controls the dome lights? |
Re: Crazy dome light
The front and rear door latches each have a switch in them; over time they may rust slightly (faster in places that slobber the roads with salt in the winter) and not fully release, causing erratic dome light operation. Most people simply spray them (front AND rear doors) with WD-40 and operate the door several times to free the rust as replacing the latch means paying for a new part that will eventually do the same thing. There are two relays embedded in the SJB (think, body module) that feed power to the lights, one is pat of the 30 minute battery saver circuit and the other is downstream from that and is a 10 minute dome light timer circuit. These almost never fail.

Re: Crazy dome light
Thank you.
The Dearborn Ford Dealer had the truck for four days this week and could not find it. We will give him your information. Thank you |
Re: Crazy dome light
My '08 Ranger was doing the same thing, turns out I had to tighten the bottom latch on the passenger side rear door. Doesn't take a whole lot, but I couldn't loosen mine, a few reasonably light taps with a hammer to move it out took care of it
