What manual transmission fluid to use

I have a 2.3L, 94 Ranger with a Mazda 5 speed manual transmission.
The manual says to use Mercon XT-2-QDX transmission fluid except I hear that it's not made any more.

Could someone recommend a synthetic manual transmission fluid specifically formulated for a syncromesh transmission?

I hear Amsoil is good - can someone recommend other brands that meet Ford specifications for an R-1 Mazda tranny?

Thanks

any mercon fluid is fine. if you're going for synthetic mobil 1 syn ATF is good.

The M50D-R1 requires just Mercron fluid.

Synthetic fluid that is equal to Mercron will handle the heat a lot better than conventional fluid.

Been checking out Royal Purple Synchromax - anyone tried it?
