Tire Question
 

Hey fellow ranger drivers, whats up?? I just got a basic question about tires here, I'll try to keep it short.

I got an 01' ranger edge 4x4 4.0L (im pretty sure it's a 4L) I dont want to do a BL because i'd rather save for a real lift (not knocking body lifts i just want to still be able to do some wheeling without the worry) and the only thing i plan on eventually doing is a Tbar crank. I think im gunna go with 32 11.50's cause ive read that they look beefier and i know theyll fit on stock.

My question is, how can i get a real stuffed looked with the tires poking out when you look the truck in the face? Can i use spacers to push em out? Or should i get 31's with more back spacing??

You're gonna need some after market wheels, with more offset, or is backspace? I get them confused. Either way stock wheels wont make your tires stick out past the fenders. I have 33x12.50's on the factory alcoa's and they are still well within the fenders. Also if a body lift is done right, it can still be wheeled hard. Or at least as hard as you'd want to wheel a ranger. Mine has held up for 4 years of abuse without any problems.

ok cool, you know of anywhere i could read up on offset or backspacing?
Would spacers be safe with the factory wheels? I think i have the 15 inchers.

Maybe I'll just save all summer for some wheels and tires. How much would you say a body lift changes the stance of the truck? Does it make it look a lot meaner?

I have the space and tools available to do it myself, I just want to know if it's worth the work and effort.

EDIT: Ok i read about the offset in the sticky, now i just need to research what will fit/be safe on my truck

A lift always makes a truck look more aggressive. And I just wanted to have an input on this because I actually work at Discount Tire. You want a wheel with a deep offset so that way with the bigger tires, it wont rub against your body. Plus it will push the tires outwards more, giving it even more of an aggressive look, and better stability since your tires will provide a wider stance, decreasing your chances of rolling, especially if you decide to lift it. Additionally, if you want some ideas as to what tires would be best to put on your truck, let me know.

If you could throw me some reccomendations that would be cool. I just want to widen the stance cause it makes a truck look beefy. Want the tires to look stuffed and poke out

Change the off set, do not go with spacers. Spacers are hard on lugs and hard to get the wheels centered properly unless they have a lip to center the wheel.

Get a 10" wide rim with a minimum of 3.75" backspace. That'll give you the look you want as well as widen your stance a bit.

Yeah these guys got the right idea. DON'T use spacers, they only do more harm than good, just get a wheel with a good offset, and you should be golden.

backspacing is the distance from the holes in the wheel to the inner edge of the wheel. the less inches the backspacing is, the close the holes are to the inside thus making the majority of the wheel stick out more, get it? smaller backspacing=more stuff outwards. offset is measured in millimeters as a combination of wheel width and backspacing, so it varies.

10 inches is a lil too wide in my opinion for your truck stock, go with an 8 inch wheel if you can with sometihng like 3.5 or 3.75 inches of backspacing.
