speedometer bouncing

After removing my gauge cluster and removing the speedometer cable from the back of the cluster I noticed my speedometer needle now bounces a lot while driving. I tore it all apart and connected it all back together a total of 3 times now just to make sure I had it hooked back up correctly. The fact that it worked fine until I unplugged the cable has me lost and is the reason I am not leaning towards a new sensor. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Sometimes while driving I notice the speedometer working like it should but then a few mins later it is bouncing again.

Sounds like you pushed the needle on too far. It doesn't need to be pushed all the way down. It could be rubbing the cluster face when it tries to move. Mine did that when I fixed my odometer gear. Try backing the needle off some and see if the problem persists.

I never actually opened the cluster up. Only removed the entire cluster and the 2 wire harnesses and the speedo cable.

Try lubing the cable. Sometimes the cable binds inside of the cable housing.
