solid axle swap

im looking to solid axle swap my ranger just dont kno what is a good axle to use any help is greatful

The "best" axle to use is all up to your skill set and what you use the truck for. My advice is to look at build threads on other sites that use different axles and set ups then decide witch is best for you. What kind of spring to you plan on using? Leafs, coils, air shocks, coilovers?

i have 8 inch lift springs out of my 85 toyota amd my plan is to drive the truck still on the road bit still be able to play in the mud and im looking to use jeep axles but dont kno whats best cuz i need manual lockout huds for 4x4

What size tires you planning on? Since you are going with leafs find an axle already set up for one. A Dana 30 will not be able to handle too big of a tire for long.

idk tire size yet i have 35s on it now with tbars and body lift i want to go to like 38s or biger

If you want bigger than 38s I would be looking at Dana 60s. They are already set up for leafs but they are full width. You can either narrow the axle or move the mounting points for the leafs on the frame outward.

Re: solid axle swap

those are big tires. may want to 5.0 swap as well for more power. or run 5.10 gears

If he was gonna swap axle I figured he would swap gears also. I would say if he regeared to 5.13 or lower he would be fine with his current motor unless it is a 4 cylinder.

If you are engine swapping a 460 & wanting to run "38's or bigger"....why would you be concerned about lug pattern???

tswallow2011 04-15-2015 10:30 AM

Ok - Good luck with that.

Running the same 'rims' would be the least of my worries given everything else a setup like that will require.

Keep us updated!
