Alright so I have spent ALOT of money tring to get my truck fixed. Ive had plugs and wires replaced multiple times. all of the gakets replaced. Fuel pump and injector changed. vacuum lines replaced. coil pack changed. fuel filter and the o2 sensor behind the passenger side tire changed. The problem my truck is doing is that when i give it gas it seems like its not getting enough gas and starts sputtering and backfiring and acts like its going to die any second. Now it doesnt do this all the time. I would say it does it like 75% of the time. Here is the crazy part though. If i replaced the plugs it runs fine for about 2 months then it starts happening again. My check engine light has been on for about 1.5 years now. It says that it has a lean on bank 1 or 2, i cant remember right now. I dont want to take it to another dealership because they dont know what they are doing. Id rather work on this myself. The only thing i can think of to replace next is the other o2 sensor, which i dont know how many there are. If that doesnt fix it i was going to change the fuel filter again b/c alot of people are telling me that might be the problem but since i replaced it once i dont want to have to replace it again. Sounds like a vacuum leak. The PCV line from the PCV on the back of the driver side valve cover to the TB is notorious for having the rubber elbows crack. It's tough to see if you don't take them off to check. Double and triple check all your vacuum line.

Every one says vacuum leak the man sit there and said its not a vacuum leak, by stating his plugs work great for 2 months before the problem arises again.

Heres an interesting thread man. http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...ad.php?t=96405 check this. I'd verify you're not buying plugs from autozone. Make sure the plugs aren't corroded with oil or carbon. That could mean something is wrong internally. I'd check vac lines as well though.

If i have a vacuum leak wont it happen all the time? And why would it cause my plugs to go bad?

so i checked the pcv hose and it was fine. Also checked the fuel filter and it was fine. I check the plugs and i was told that they were suppose to be gap at .52-.56 and there were at. 40. when I changed them and put them back in, it ran worse than before. So now Im going to change it back to .40 gap setting. annybody know what else could be wrong. my next thing is to take the engine out to see if anything is wrong inside.

What's the name of the part that regulates EGR? Because that's what it sounds like. Too much exaust gas being sent to the intake, causing it to lean and fouling the plugs after a short while.

It'd be like a hidden vacuum leak as well. Not a leak to the outside but an unaccounted for "false air" leak just the same.

I think you would of been better taking it in, look at all the parts you have put at it already, if it telling you lean bank 1 and 2 then you mostly likely have a o2 that is not ready right or somthing is making it read lean. you can check voltage of the 02 to see if it is working right or use a good scaner that will tell you what they are reading. you have 2 02 that read you mixture, one for each bank(side) the downstream 02 tell you if your cat is working

The intake manifold gasket can cause the lean in bank 1 and bank 2 problem.
I believe ford had a TSB on the gasket because of all the failures.

What is the part called where the air intake hose run to? Midas said that this is my problem and was wanting to charge 400 dollars to replace it. i was going to look it up on autozone to see the price of it.

are you talking about the MAF or Mass Air Flow sensor?

no. it is a big black tubing. it says 4.0 efi on it. the fuel injector is hooked on it. i will take some pics and post them to show what im talking about.

The black thing that says 4.0 efi is the part im talking about. In the first picture it shows a gap where the seams meet together and i was told that this is like a vacuum leak and that it need to be replaced. wasnt sure if i should of believe this or not. anybody know about this?

that is the upper intake manifold. it wouldn't hurt to try and seal it up with JB weld or a plastic epoxy
