Are you a Ranger Idiot?

Take the "Are you a Ranger idiot" Test!

Do you think all Rangers are capable of towing 7,000 lbs?

Do you Try to haul 4,000 lbs in the bed of your truck?

Do you use just a hitch ball on your bumper and tow a 3,000 lb+ trailer?

Do you claim the manufacturers recommeded weight limits are way under rated?

Do you Brag about towing something that is 2 times over the weight limit your truck can handle?

OR....

Do you do the above, then complain and call your truck a piece of crap when the transmission has failed, the engine has blown and the suspension has broken?

If you answered "YES" to any of the above, you are a qualified Ranger Idiot.

Re: Are you a Ranger Idiot?

Except for thinking that the bumper hitch is made for towing, and bitching about breaking stuff (which hasn't happened because I upgrade FIRST), I've done the rest of those things with a lowered 2.3l Ranger.

Is a Ranger the first choice for doing these things, no. Can it, yes.

And don't go getting your panties in a wad just because others are not afraid to see what their trucks can do, as opposed to staying with factory "recommendations".

But, on a lighter note, Bob Ayers would agree with you completely, and tell you that only factory installed products will work properly. Maybe all those "factory" parts is why some trucks can't handle it.

I was thinking of FMD and someone else (can't remember who) that said they used their 2.3L ranger to tow 7,000 lbs, when i made this thread.

Re: Are you a Ranger Idiot?

Probably me. I pulled the 4850lb Cherokee on the 2100lb trailer.

I wouldn't recommend going long distances like that though, bit too much work on the driveline, and yeah doing it often would probably ruin clutches and transmissions in a hurry.

Re: Are you a Ranger Idiot?

How much can I tow with a bumper hitch anyway? It says 200 or 250 lb tongue weight, but how much weight would that equal out to be?

Re: Are you a Ranger Idiot?

About 2000lbs trailer weight. But that would be a max. I bent my bumper pulling a '84 Olds Delta88 Brougham with the strap hooked to my ball on the bumper. So yeah, a couple of jet skis, or a lawn mower trailer would be about it.

Thanks! I pulled some huge tree stumps with a tow strap on the ball last weekend. It was fun. They probably only weighed 6-800 lbs though.
