Smartbar/Bullbar for Ranger in US?
Hello all, this may be a stupid question here but do you guys in the United States, either have or heard of the Smartbar? I'm sure you do but probably call it something else. Their made of some kind of plastic/polymer and really look the goods as not like the steel/alloy Bar they dont crumble after taking a big hit. Instead they bounce back into shape. I'm thinking of getting one very soon if the reviews are favorable. One site here in Australia has some info: http://www.allvehicleaccessories.com.au/smartbar.html

Wow that totally defeats the purpose of a full grille bumper. By buying this your truck will take all the damage, the same way some cars are now made "pedestrian-friendly" and making the repair bill that much more expensive for the driver who may not be at fault, but still ends up paying in the end.
I prefer the real thing. |
Re: Smartbar/Bullbar for Ranger in US?
Going by what I've read so far, the smartbar takes the brunt of the impact But yeah you might be right, if the thing does crumple and bend then it would go back and probably damage the body.
Do you have them over there? |
Re: Smartbar/Bullbar for Ranger in US?
Actually, it's the first time i heard of such a thing. When i took a look around the website you posted, i saw we have different terms for our protective bumpers. Over here, a bull bar is the central part only, the full/bush guard is the one protecting everything.
I saw a few called "smart" bars on ebay, but they were variations of the bull bar, nothing like yours. |
Re: Smartbar/Bullbar for Ranger in US?
Ah ok, I dont know why they are called Bullbars here , if you did hit a Bull (or something that size) while travelling at speed or average speed for that matter, nobody would be going anywhere anyway. The Bullbar would probably be ok if it hit a Kangaroo etc but nothing really big.
Anyway, all the Roos i've hit have come from the side come to think of it. |
Re: Smartbar/Bullbar for Ranger in US?
Who needs that sissy plastic nonsense? I dont want anything i hit to get back up, ever. If its not smart enough to stay out of my way, it doesnt deserve a second chance.lol

man i always herd you would't want anything close to plastic unless small bushes is all you get into or unless you just want a clean maintainable look.

That thing is hideous! It's your truck though so if you like it by all means...
BTW, I was under the impression that the front bars were called "bull bars" because they were originally designed for softly nudging bulls who were in the way of the rancher driving, not to protect the truck from a 55mph impact with a wall of beef. :D |
