ticking noise after tensioner replacement

so what happened was after i replaced the back hydraulic tensioner with a new one (just for preventative maintenance) the engine on the upper left side is making a bad ticking noise like a lifter is sticking. did i screw anything up or is it just bad timing. ( as in i did nothing and that was going to happen anyways). i hope i didnt mess the engine timing up just by putting in a new tensioner.

no one knows anyting?? any input would help

Check your belt. With the new tighter tensioner there may be a lump on the belt that hits the pulley where your hearing the noise. If you need a replacement I rev omens a gatorback belt.

I don;t see how replacing the serpentine belt tensioner would hurt the timing.
--are you sure it is not coming from a pulley?

Pull the valve cover and have a look.
If you don't see a problem, pull the new tensioner and check it.

He's talking about the timing chain tensioner.

Re: ticking noise after tensioner replacement

Did you use a genuine ford tensioner? If not, get that mofo out and put a real one in! Just spent the last two weeks dealing with what sounds like an identical problem. Also, did you prime the tensioner before putting it in?

Re: ticking noise after tensioner replacement

just to let everyone know im talking about the hydraulic chain tensioner not the serpentine belt tensioner and yes i did prime it and it is legit ford part.

Did it get rock solid when you primed it?

Re: ticking noise after tensioner replacement

yes i submerged it in oil and primed it. not sure why it would start making a noise by just replacing the old one for preventative maintenance. sounds a little like chain rattle or valve tick. why would replacing it cause that?

Re: ticking noise after tensioner replacement

I went through a similar problem but what happened to me was using aftermarket tensioners. I'm going to be uploading a video of the sound my truck made soon, I'll send u the link to see if it was the same noise

What's more strange is that yours occurred with Ford parts
