06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
Hi my name is jeremy, I have an 06 ranger that started making a grinding noise while turning, I have no clue what to check next. I have replaced wheel bearings on both sides and put new brake pads on it. Any ideas on what could cause that. It drove fine after changed bearings until the next day.

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
Welcome to FRF. Does it make the noise sitting still just turning the wheel, or do you have to be moving?. It is possible it may be a bad ball joint.

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
Ive never tried while not moving. how do I check ball joints? Forgot to mention that with the wheel off I can move the rotor in and out, what would cause that?

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
back and forth on the spindle? or the ball joint below it moves?
|
Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
the rotor was the only thing moving

What do you mean by the rotor in and out? I'm sorry, I just don't quite follow. And ball joints, If you jack the truck up by the control arm and then stick a bar and try prying the wheel..idk how to say it...lol. Watch this video! Its even a ranger...

then it is the bearings.

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
pulling the rotor away from the truck then pushing it back against it.
So maybe I got a bad bearing or it got put in wrong? I will check ball joints tomorrow, thank you guys! Will let you know what I come up with. |
Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
Yup sounds like bearings. Good luck!

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
there should be no back and forth movement of the rotor on the spindle, i dont know if you replaced the races in your rotor, but most new bearings come with the race that you can replace your old ones with and make sure you pack the new bearings with grease and grease all inside rotor and the spindle shaft thoroughly and replace the back seal.

Re: 06 ranger makes grinding noise when turning. please help me
So I pulled the rotor off and the bearings came out in pieces. I drove it like that too long, my rotor is chipped where the bearing goes. I was told to check my ball joints and tie rod ends because it could of caused it, is this true and if so how do I check tie rod ends?
