2009 XLT Fog Lights

I have a 2009 XLT. Sally didn't come with fog lights wire are there but no lights. I paid Ford an arm and a leg for OEM Lights and got the new switch that included the fog pull switch. Lights and switch are in and plugged up. I added the relay to the Battery Junction Box, 15 amp fuse in slot 31 was already in place. Head and parking lights work but no fog lights. I am not getting power to the fog lights. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sometimes there is a section of wire missing. Usually at the switch. Or did you put that wiring in yourself?

I haven't put any wiring in, just going with what the factory installed. Other than making you go back to the dealer for the wiring what sense does it make to run the wires to the bumper, wire the box and not run the wire all the way to the switch.....I love my Ranger but may or may not be happy with Ford Motor Company....such a simple task made difficult.
Anyone have the schematic for the switch?

Cause it makes sense to ford to make one wiring harness for all the trucks.

Then they make another harness for foglights and non foglights.

Ut just missing the wiring from the switch to the dist. box. It is really simple to run ur own wires.

Do you have the diagram so I can check to see what wires might be missing?

Okay here's the deal to get the lights to work. You have to take it an have the computer reprogramed for the fog lights. Local dealer charges $120

are you sure? on my 08xlt its missing a wire from the huge wire harness plug under the steering wheel to the headlight switch. i traced the fog light replay wire to that huge plug but it ended there.

i even bought the fog/headlight switch and a relay.

how does the computer factor into the fog lights?

That is false

Re: 2009 XLT Fog Lights

in 07' they moved the foglight switch to the headlight switch like the newer f150's are set up.

i did some more traceing today, i think the switching wire between the relay and the head/foglight switch is fused. i have the wire for it at the switch and the relay. but loose it not far from either location. the fog light wire from the head light switch to my understanding with my multi meter get powered with 12V when you pull the switch out for fogs.

i see no fuse for the switching wire in the cab, but i do have the fuse installed in the under hood distribution box, it fuses the hot wire from the relay to the fog lamps.

hope i make some sence. as i hope someone figgures this out. i would like to add the factory fogs to my truck. i also went to 2 ford dealers and that was a waste of my time and fuel. thay give me the feeling that the techs are slaves and they wont let them out of there service bay to talk to a customer, so your stuck with a retard service writer.

i know this can be done, it seems to much wiring is in place for it not to be something simple. im thinking maybe the wire is fused to a empty spot with no fuse holder on our non fog trucks. maybe time to run to the dealer and rip the fuse panel off and see whats different.

you know, you all (those who bought their truck new) could have just had ford add fog lights and be done with it. And for those who say it's too expensive, the cost would increase your monthly payment by a whole $4 (if you have a 4 year loan) ($3+per month on a 3 year loan) Ford deliberately doesn't put all of the fog light wires, switches, fuses, etc in every ranger so people will take it back and have them do the installation for around $200

mine was used so, didn't really have a say in weather or not i wanted fogs or not.

They might do something else when I take it it but I have all the wires in place from the switch (grey/violet) through the SJB, to the BJB to the fog lights. Relay in place (48B), fuse (31). When I check continunity across the two wires at the fog lights it reads fine just no voltage. I don't understand how it would read Ohms if a wire was missing. If someone else has a solution that works I'd be happy to hear and try it.

When I called the local dealer they said the computer had to reprogrammed.

Re: 2009 XLT Fog Lights

The computer idea does kinda make sense. I am doing the same exact thing and according the wire diagram all is in place, but they still don't work. I even jumped the connections in the battery junction box and they came on so power is there. $120 seems awfully extreme since it will only take them 5 minutes to flash a computer.

Re: 2009 XLT Fog Lights

I agree high price to pay but when you live outside DC everything is high. I guess the computer factors in because of the warning light in the instrument cluster and the trouble shooting paper I was able to find talks about Field-Effect Transistor Protection (FET) in the smart junction box. Goes on about protective circuit strategy for many outputs (for example the headlight output circuit) ....turns off voltage or a ground when a fault event is detected. Which to me is blah blah blah to me. Such a simple thing to cause so much frustration. I'll let you know for sure next week when Sally goes to the dealer.

Please do let us know. I appreciate it since this has been a big frustration. It should not be this hard. When I bought the thing they did not even say having them do it was a possiblility. Dealers here tell you to go talk to the parts department when questions like that come up.
