Bad EGR valve

Do you guys know what happens if i dont replace my Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve it keeps messing up on me. I take it off clean it out and my check engine light turns off only for about 50 miles though then it goes back on. Then i just repeat the process does that mean it needs to be replaced or what.

I did some reading online, and it might be something else, not the EGR valve. I don't remember what it was though. My truck does the same thing. You could just try replacing it though, its an 80dollar part, and a simple replacement to do yourself.
If that doesn't help. Do some online research. You should find what I found

Try to clean the valve with a descarbonisation fluid, wash and wait the reside way off the valve.
Don't clean with water, and after the procediment let the valve dry on sun.

If you have an emissions test/inspections you will not pass. Other than that it will take a very long time to mess up the engine.

Re: Bad EGR valve

I think your Ranger has an older EGR system. There is a small switch (DPFE) that controls the valve. Follow the hose from the EGR forward to the left front side of the engine. The DPFE switch is mounted there. It's a black plastic gizmo with some hoses coming from it. It fails more regularly then the EGR valve. Also, check the vacuum tubing from the switch to the valve. The engine heat cooks them, they crack and then they leak.
