Shell Peel

The clear coat paint on the shell of my Ranger is peeling. I don't have access to a compressor/sprayer and was given a quote of $500 to fix it. I can sand down the clear coat. I was wondering if there's a way I could roll on some type of clear paint, to build it up. This is not a show truck and I only use the shell for camping. Otherwise its off. I'm looking for a way to cheaply and easily protect the original paint on the shell, without it looking really bad. Thanks.

I get mine from www.automotivetouchup.com AER-CC 12oz High Gloss Clear Coat 7.95 a can. Real auto grade clearcoat, not the generic stuff that Home Depot sells. It is sandable and polishable. I did my bumper, grill and bed cap with it. I still need to buff it up but Im very happy with it
