Flowmaster 40's NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!

I just installed a flowmaster 40's si/so, and didnt notice a damn difference in the tone as my stock muffler!! Cats are in, full exit in rear of tire like a normal exhaust.. What can I do to make it sound mean!? Or should I go with something else?? Help appreciated;)

Oh and the flowmaster is used so no breakin time needed.

I'd go with a super 44. It's a little more aggressive sounding.

Have to remember it will never sound like a v8, i have my flow 40 dumped and has a good sound to it for me. Loud, but not going to get noise complaints loud.

You had it installed in the wrong spot. Basicly to get the Flowmaster American Thunder 40 series to work like it should you'd have to put it DIRECTLY ON THE HEADER. I did this a while back and ended up getting a police escort back to the garage (of course I only had the muffler and tip off the header). BUT DO BE CAREFULL PLEASE. USE ONLY AT YOUR OWN RISK. Putting the muffler DIRECTLY ON THE HEADER CAN CAUSE SOME SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE. It tends to cook the valvetrain components.

lol thanx^^.. Its located in the same spot as the original muffler.. Maybe if I dump the exit it will give me a more aggressive sound... I dont understand how people have those and they get a badass sound, They have same setup as mine.. Maybe its the damn pipe diameter???

Re: Flowmaster 40's NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!

Are you sure its a 40 series? You said you got it used so it could be all surface rusted and not be able to tell the series? idk. I have a 40 series on mine single in, dual out and it is load-almost too loud.

please dont drill holes in the muffler that is stupid, idk why you cant tell the difference. mine is in place of my stock muffler but its a dual out and its almost too loud for me

It's a 4.0........ Straight pipe that shit. I did, sounds great. I'm thinking super 44 up against the cats though.

Re: Flowmaster 40's NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!

depends on how long youve had it installed cuz they take time to wear in..give it about a week of daily driving and it should start to sound better

Re: Flowmaster 40's NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!

Give it a couple days......over the next few weeks you'll notice it getting louder. It's gotta 'break-in'.

By reading the posts, I'm guessing you were expecting sooooo much more and were just expecting too much. It's a decently smooth running engine...it's not a v8 and will never sound like a v8 w/ a cam and headers.

What 40 did you do? Post up the part number lasered or pressed into the inlet side of the muffler. Original 40's sound like ass on the SOHC 4.0's where as they are the most badass sounding muffler on a carb'd V8. On your OHV 4.0, I would've suggested a Delta 40. BTW...you didn't do "40's"...that's plural.

Re: Flowmaster 40's NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!

I was expecting a nice lil rumple out of it..I wonder if the pipe size is the issue? It has a damn 2" from the catback! I bought it used, but dont know for how long it was used before me.. Ill give it some time see what it does.. The Part #42441, heres a pic.
