No defroster flow

97 Ford Ranger

Just purchased this and there appears to be a defroster air flow problem. When the defroster is turned on, I can hear the blower motor and there is flow but it appears to not be directed up towards the windshield. So the air flow may not be diverted in the right direction. When I chatted with the owner, he indicated he replaced the heater core recently but did it through the heater in the cab below the dash. He did not go through the area under the hood. When you look down by the heater below the dash there is a small piece of duct tape. So it appears they did in fact replace the heater core through the front. Perhaps they may have disturbed the defroster diverter. Any help on how to attack this? Is there a diagram on how this should look?

Prior to pulling the heater to inspect, check to be sure the vacuum lines at the heater and controls are connected properly and not pinched. It is not necessary to mess with the vent distribution doors when changing the core so i would investigate other problems first. Their is one vacuum hose connection on the heater at the left edge of the glove box. One connection at the fire wall just above the edge of the carpeting at the passenger foot area and of course at the back of the control knobs.

Before we can answer this accurately, you need to tell us where the air is blowing out instead?
