98 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4
 

Recently picked up a 98 ranger xlt 3.0 5 speed. It's the towing back age so it sits up a little higher and had step sides. I wanna do some work to the engine but have no clue where to start. I will get a cold air intake and maybe a chip but I don't know much about how to go about gaining more from your engine. Any favor or help would be appreciated.

Id focus on just a tune up.Theres not much you can do for a 3.0 without spending big bucks. Most people on here will tell you that a cai will have no effect on a ranger, and that chips are useless. Do the ziptie mod for the throttle cable though, and you might notice some difference.

Can you link me to this zip tie mod? Sounds little sketchy but I'm thinking of buying a new engine to drop in this because it's high mileage

Thank ya I'm only on a phone so it's hard to navigate thru everything. Im just trying work out the kinks, first month or two on a Manuel and it is taking some getting used to to smooth it out. Seems like no matter what I feel like I dump the clutch, I get a wobble when I shift each gear. I've only had experience with auto trans so maybe I'm just to used to that smoothness of shifts or it's just me.
