Mid 2010 macbook pro issue!!

I just bought a late 2010 MacBook Pro off Craigslist. Worked fine but it had the person before me Apple ID on it. So I went to preform a factory reset on it. Went to the disk utility and erased the hd, clicked on install osx and it has mavericks on it. But it asks for Apple ID and when I put mine in it tells me that i didn't buy it on my Apple ID. I'm stuck! I don't know what to do it's my first macbook. Never had a Mac computer before I have a compaq laptop running windows vista. I DO NOT have the original discs for the macbook. So I'm not sure what to do. Can someone please help me?!

I looked up the serial number and it originally came with 10.6.3 snow leopard.

----------

Okay, it originally came with snow leopard. On apple website I can buy the snow leopard disc for $20. With that disc can I put it into the computer and install the 10.6 os even though it's currently on 10.9 would it be like a restore disc? I want the computer to be as if it's new and no one has owned it before. Someone anyone?

I'd buy the disk, format the hard drive COMPLETELY and re install snow leopard. That should do the trick. Then upgrade from there

----------

Or actually, try to install OSX lion (10.7) if you can. Then mavericks will be a free update.

I don't think I can get a lion disc? And I just chatted with apple support and they said to buy the snow leopard disc and then update to mavericks that it wouldn't cost anything to update.

----------

Snow leopard they mail you an actual disc. Lion is an email with a download link. so I would need the disc.

Lion comes on a little USB doodad..not a disk.

And ok, try snow leopard then. I wasn't sure if you could jump straight to mavericks from snow leopard.

That's what they said. But I'm not sure I've always had windows. And I looked at lion and it said ships 3 days via email? Idk I don't get it. I bought it for editing for gopro videos. My gateway laptop is a duel core 2 gb ram at 1.47 ghz and it doesn't like gopro videos. This one is an intel i5 with 2.5 ghz and 500gb hd. And 4gb ram.

Lion can be purchased as a digital download or USB doodad IIRC. it's been a while since I did that update on all of our macs.

But anyways, when the hard drive in my sisters MacBook shit the bed, I bought a new one, formatted it, and installed the original OS that shipped on the computer. so that should work for you as well.

Specs sound good. Bump the ram up to 8gb and you'll definitely notice a difference in editing video. And if you really want it to go fast, get a western digital Scorpio black 7200RPM hard drive or an OWC solid state drive.

I just bought the disc. So now the disc is pretty much like the factory restore disc correct? And yeah I plan to bump it up to 8gb of ram and eventually putting a ssd in it. I wanted to buy a new computer. But I was gonna buy a tower. Now I just have to wait for the disc. Says it will be here on the 10th

Yep, it's just like buying a windows 7 disk from the store.

8gb of ram with an SSD and that thing will fly. Like I said, I'd look into OWCs offerings. I put one in one of our computers at work, and it's a really nice drive. I've got 2 more on the way to do the other 2 computers we have. Build quality is great and they have a nice list of features.

Never had windows 7 lol I'm stuck with windows vista home premium 64 bit. When I play my hope videos on my computer they are glitchy. And it's not the card because it's a class 10 64 gb micro sd with 90mb/s save rate. It's the best card I could get. I have another 64 class 10 but it's only 30mb I think. The macbook has a 500gb 5400rpm SATA drive ill post a link to the serial number look up specs.

I don't see anything when I click the link. Actually if you give me the identifier or model number, I can tell you everything about it.

casey.mikl 02-05-2014 08:10 PM

What I'm gonna do is still use my gateway laptop for iTunes and music downloads and such and use the macbook for videos and Internet and stuff like that so I don't take up space on the macbook

Sounds like a plan.

Do you have an iPhone/iPod touch? There's an app that will tell you everything you want to know about your computer. It's a great reference tool.

Yes I have an iphone 5s and an iPad mini. Always had iPhones. I upgraded a while ago to the note 1 and returned it. I hated it. Don't like anything but iphone. Because I'm used to it. I need to get used to the touch id feature though.

Literally everything you could possibly want to know about just about every apple product. It's great if you're an apple geek like me.
