Odd hum when its hot outside
 

hi guys.. from time to time i get a loud hum from my engine when the temp is over 70 degrees out. I think its coming from the stock intake tube being old(170,000 miles). Has anyone had similar problems.. and is switching the intake a simple fix? Thank you in advance.

what engine? 4.0 OHV's have a little issue with exactly what you're discribing. Replace your throttle body gasket, MAF gasket, and anything that has a joint in the intake tube. If it still persists, replace upper manifold gaskets.

yeah sorry its a 4.0... when it starts to hum if i pop the hood and squeeze the intake tube the hum stops. Thanks for the heads up... I just ordered a new intake and throttle body tonight so we will see if that fixes it.

ok so it did it again as soon as i pulled into the driveway.. Opened the hood and the intake tube was vibrating pretty good. I decided to pull the old intake off and clean it out. The rubber is very flexible. Hopefully the new parts show up soon so i can see if it makes a difference.

it's the iac. it's located on the upper intake manifold, on the driver's side. it's a small sensor.

See i had that two on my cold air intake but it came from the filter area, so i covered the body holes that are there by the filter with duck tape and it stopped for the most part. Idk what else it could be.

my moms explorer was doing the same thing, i cleaned the iac and throttle body and that fixed it

Bumping a 3 year old thread....

But i'm having an odd hum from my engine bay. It is coming from the intake and I want to make sure its the IAC before I start replacing parts.
First video is while driving and the second one is when I was leaving a friends house.

I had that problem exactly three years ago and my mechanic fixed by replacing a belt.

The serpentine belt?

Yeah it hasn't done it again since being replaced.

Did you clean your iac
