Dana 44 SAS Q's

My buddy and I are both throwing money in on a chassis of a 76 F150, it comes with the axles, tranny, transfer case, fuel tank.
We are both wanting to put the Full Width Dana 44 front, and the 9 inch rear on my 99 Ranger when we have both gained enough knowledge of what to do
The front suspension on the 76 is setup for coils so we are going to just stick with that, also going to keep it full width.
I've been searching and searching and cannot find a full width coil spring build thread online.
Can someone post me a link to one, and help me with a couple questions.
What things do we have to fabricate our selves?

I've been looking for probably 2 days, haven't found anything except for Dana 35 coil spring SAS or a cut down Dana 44...
Maybe I'm searching the wrong stuff, Idk.

I'm not entirely sure, but isn't the 76 D44 still drum brake on the front?

Good question, I figured they'd be disk but if they are drum brakes, I'm definitely looking for a different donor vehicle. I know you can convert a drum to disc but I'd rather not

I think they went to disc in 77. But I'm not entirely sure on cutoff year. It might have been 1975.

This if from ford-trucks
" 1976 F150 4WD's came with Power Brakes as standard equipment: Discs in the front, 11" x 2 1/4" rear drum brakes."

----------

I also asked the fella selling the chassis, they are indeed disk brakes in the front

Yea, I read up somewhere else that 1975 was the last year for drum brakes on the front D44.

It's been awhile since I've hung out on an F-Series forum.

Haha. Anyway...
Does anyone known of a Full Width Dana 44 coil spring SAS build thread?
Also, what things will I need to fabricate at home?

I have yet to find a thread on it. Start a thread on pirate 4x4 they will help you more than we probably can or explorer forums are VERY knowledgeable.
Id imagine that you would just need to cut the coilover bucket and re position them closer on the axle depending on where they are mounted on the truck. Sorry ik thats REALLY basic, but you are kind of going to be a trail blazer on this build. Most GOOD builds dont go off of others...

Also I forgot TRS is really into sas..

BeauJCope 10-01-2013 05:37 PM

Yeah I'll probably have to go on pirate.
I just wanted to get an idea of wtf I was getting in to and how to build things

If you can fabricate you will be okay, now if you can measure you will be golden pony boy.

BeauJCope 10-01-2013 05:39 PM
