If you're just mounting a point-and-shoot camera, you can get by with those cheap tripods. But as a serious photographer speaking from experience, you get what you pay for. For anyone thinking "whats the big deal? It's just legs!" then the cheapies will be perfect for you.

But for serious SLR users, a solid, quality 'pod is invaluable.

Any camera with the threaded hole on the bottom will fit on a tripod.
