Finally got a decent moon shot
Weather wasn't the greatest. Was very hazy after the storms we have had today, but out of 20 pictures I took. I ended up with one good one. I also need a better tripod, My current one isn't quite stable enough.

I was using my 55-300mm lens I got about 2 weeks ago. Tripod makes all the difference when doing any kind of night photography.

Re: Finally got a decent moon shot
Looks good!
You could sharpen it a little more.
With my ball head tripod I had to aim my 70-300mm lens slightly above the moon because of the weight of my lens and the flexing of the ball head.
There will be a full moon on the 13th which is Saturday so you can have another go at it. Clouds permitting of course.

Re: Finally got a decent moon shot
Nice, man. did you crop the photo, or is a 300mm lens able to zoom in that much?

I'm using a fairly cheap tripod from walmart, but I have one of my dads old school tripods from when he use to do photography I need to find. I did sharpen it a little, but I prefer my images to be a little soft.

Its cropped. However before I cropped it when I zoomed in all the way it was a little bigger then that. I made it a little smaller so the image was cleaner. Better tripod that can handle the weight of the new lens is in order. However now that I have gotten the shot I've always wanted. I know want a 500mm zoom lens LOL.

Re: Finally got a decent moon shot
Out of curiosity, other than the moon, what else would you want to take photos of that would require a 500mm lens? I would think with the quality of the camera, you could just shoot with your a 300mm lens and crop out whatever you want to from the photo with an editing program.

Can't really list off anything exactly, but I know I will eventually get to the point where I out grow the 55-300. Considering you can get a 50-500 or a 150-500 and even a 250-500 lens.
