10 mega pixel vs. 10.2 megapixel DSLR
Had been using my older camera which is just a point a shoot. I was kinda surprised how much of a difference there was.
Cannon 10 mega pixel point and shoot.
10.2 mega pixel Sony A330 DSLR

Just shows there's a lot more to the quality of a photograph than mega pixels.

Not the best example. It is dark and gonna rain. I was noticing how grainy they looked on the regular camera.

Re: 10 mega pixel vs. 10.2 megapixel DSLR
Besides the grainy/noisiness in the first one, the first one also doesn't bring out any cloud detail. In the second one, it is incredible.

I just want to show you what a very quick and simple touch-up can do. I took your pic taken with the P&S and touched it up.

Re: 10 mega pixel vs. 10.2 megapixel DSLR
Its been said on here before, but mega pixels is more of a marketing tool than anything else nowadays. 1MP vs 3MP, sure but nothing else really. In as far as what will take a better picture, you have to look at the lens type (Carl Zeiss vs G lens) and sensor type (CMOS vs ?) these two factors will affect a picture's outcome more than if it was taken with a 5MP or a 8MP which only means how big can it go before it starts to look grainy on the computer screen. I'm glad I have a DSLR (Nikon D5000) these days...they are great

I didn't know the Sony DSLRs had Carl Z lenses. Hummm. I know the Sony HX-1 touts its G lens pretty big wonder what the "real" difference in the two types are. Ima have to snoop around sonys website for a bit to find out more. I almost got a Sony DSLR. the thing that kept me from it was the proprietary accessories...flash especially. Have to buy Sony stuff for it. If Sony doesnt make it, you do without it....
You do post some pretty nice pics on here. Seems your sony is pretty good. I love Sony crap. You oughta take a look at my living room: Sony tv, receiver, dvd player, speakers, ps3, H3 point and shoot,............

That is one down side. You have to buy all Sony accessories. However I would rather buy Sony then any other brand my self.

Re: 10 mega pixel vs. 10.2 megapixel DSLR
I just use a cheap point and shoot and use software to touch em up so they look decent, but would someday like to upgrade to a better camera. any suggestions for a first good camera? thanks...

Re: 10 mega pixel vs. 10.2 megapixel DSLR
Check out Sony and Nikon cameras that have the 15-20x zoom junk on them. They are bigger than normal point and shoot cameras but have a lot of cool do-it-yourself features that you find on DSLRs. They are good intro cameras. I love the Sony HX-1. $400 for it though...
