Thanks John! It was my first attempt at the 1200mm focal length and I had to watch over my shoulder to make sure the drivers were not texting and run me over.Lol!

Ok, The 24 to 600 zoom was freaking me out. That is a weird range. I see now it is a combination of optical and digital zooming.

Exactly,it works.Lol! The shot I entered in the Photo contest, was in the optical zoom, about 600mm or 24X.

Very nice camera for the money! I also just my first DSLR. I went with the Sony A3000 because my local best buy had it on sale for $300.

Whatever you are willing to spend. The diferences between a lot of these cameras is beyond what the average user will ever see.

This is what I am shooting...

I just really didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a camera. But for me the compromises I had to make with my sony made up for the price difference.

Yours is really nice Doug, but I had to beg the wife to get the one I have.Since were retired we have to watch our pennies.Lol! You right about all the features on the new cameras,I have the photography background, but digital is a whole new ballgame. I'm still real rusty too!

If you want something that takes nice pics, but you aren't going to go crazy, I understand your point. I spent 750 for mine, two lenses, 25-55 and 55-250, and bag. I tend to be a little obsessive about some things, and I knew I had better start off with something that would keep me happy.

Bob, this was my first DSLR. I always used film in the past. Digital is SO much better! I need to just break down and get Photoshop, but I HATE the new program because it is a monthly pay. And I despise Lightroom. Hate that program. Using it is about as intuitive as basket weaving using someone else's hands. I've got TONS of pictures on my computer. Plus I am looking to mount my Contour ( http://store.contour.com/collections...s/contourroam2 ) on both the bike and the truck.

If I bought the camera (Nikon) I wanted, I knew I wouldn't have the funds for the lenses I wanted. But I'm happy as a lark with my choice.

Personally I think Nikon makes some good cameras. Nice glass too. But I think they price them just a little bit too high. But some are willing to pay it. Just not for me. But I have always been a Cannon guy anyway...
