Default Re: Platinum vs. Double Platinum Plugs

I saw someone mention the two piece motorcraft plug that comes apart and I wanted to help clarify that those plugs not used in the ranger. Here is a photo of the motorcraft plugs that come apart:

These syle plugs are used in the 5.4 Triton F series and Expeditions and E series vans.

Also, the 4.0 OHV and SOHC plugs are different from each other; one is shorter so make sure you get the correct plug for your application. As long as you use the correct plug you shouldn't have a problem; brand is a preference (and I still prefer NGK lol)

Just so you guys know, the copper plugs can still be used for around 30k, just have to remove them and regap them every so often.

I see many people who come in with double platinum plugs and whenever I take them out for inspection, I notice that the spark usually tends to go to only one side of the prongs instead of coming from both. Why is this, not sure but that is what I have seen from many people coming in with those plugs.

The best performing plugs I have used and recommend are the NGV V-Power plugs. Th V groove is supposed to make the spark expand quicker creating a better combustion inside the cylinder.
