Default 2.8L diesel questions

I'm down in Chile with a 04 Ranger with the 2.8L turbo diesel. One of my issues it that the temperature gauge doesn't work. I'm having a hard time locating where the sensor is on the engine. I'm guessing that not to many people have experience with this engine but any ideas would help. Also it seems that I have a small exhaust leak coming from the back side of the turbo where the down pipe connects, I haven't had time to take it apart and try to realign it yet.

I'll try to get some engine pics up if anyone is interested.

Does it take a lot of time to reach its normal temeprature? If so, check the thermostat. It might be rusted and stuck open.
