Default idle speed for 3.0?

Hi all..
I'm kinda stuck in finding out what the idle speed should be on my 03 3.0. No search has helped, either here or Google, the local Ford dealership wants me to bring my truck in so they can "go through it" for me, and I'm not havin' any of that crap..

It seems like my truck is idling low when warm around 5-600 rpm, and I get the distinct feeling it should be higher.

Anybody able to shed some light on this for me?

I believe the idle speed for the 3.0 is around 950 rpm. Thats around what my 2003 3.0L runs when warm.

does the truck seem like it's chugging or surging at idle? you MAY need a tune up. i'll check mine tomorrow and see where it idles though and get back to you for sure.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

It's not chugging, though it does surge a bit, if the AC's been running for a while.

I'm cleaning the MAF and throttle body this weekend, followed up with a tune up.
I just really wanna know where the idle *should* sit, as opposed to where it's at now.

Again, thanks for the reply =D

Okay, so here's some weirdness for y'all.

Just on a whim, I pulled the plugs the other day. Get this..they were pristine and white. Brand new looking, and that's no exaggeration.

The MAF is clean, as is the IAC...yet the idle still seems low (reads 500 or so, on the tach). Also, I've noticed some pinging, under load, when it's hot and I give it some heavy throttle action.

I dunno what fuel was put through it, in it's past, but I'm gonna continue my habit of Chevron-only (all I've ever used, in all my vehicles), to gradually clean any carbon buildup.

From what I've read here, and other sources online, pinging seems to be normal for the Vulcan V6. Anybody had luck in eliminating it?

As noted in another thread, I've swapped out plugs and coil-pack. Still have a rough idle on start-up, but it's noticeably smoother when warm. Also, the idle seems to settle at around 5-600 rpm. That doesn't seem quite right.
I've cleaned the MAF and IAC...but I'm thinking the IAC is done. Kaput. Kicked the bucket, so to speak.. So far, no

Sound about right?

Mine idles clean between 5-7k. Sounds about right.. Did you check the gap on your plugs? Should be around .44-.47 on the largest.

Correction - 500-700. Lol.

Alrighty then...I'll leave it for now, as it sounds like I've got all my bases covered. If the CEL comes up again, I'll know I missed something..

Thanks for the input, DarkEdge =D

My pleasure. Sometimes the CEL is a blessing... It might be annoying... But at least it let's you know what's wrong. Instead of just throwing parts at it with a hope and a prayer. Lol. Good luck.

Mine idles around 750 warm, 850 cold in the summer and 1250 cold in the winter (although I think that's because of the throttle controller put in by the po)

Sent from between the spare tire and the evap canister.

Light came on again (gawdammit) so I just ate the bullet and replaced the IAC.
Cleared the code via the battery cable, and went for a drive. Seems tons smoother, but I'm skeptical. Keepin' an eye on it, though..

And once again, that damn light came on this morning, on my drive to work.
Having replaced the iac, plugs, coilpack and wires, it's *got* to be a vacuum leak, since my compression checked out on all 6, right at 165-170.

Just wish I knew where to start, though...

Start with the ones on top of the motor. Since they are in the most heat.

----------

Spray them with starting fluid while truck is running. The idle will have variation of you hit one that's leaking.

There seems to be a few more "how not to" threads going on then normal. What's your reason for not posting the codes?

Model-A, I do have an android phone. Mind if I ask why you wanna know?

Also, the original code that was spit out was a P0306, which was a misfire on #6. I'm not certain what the code will be today, but I'm headed to Autozone after work to see what those nice folks can learn for me..
