Question International 2.5L V6 Diesel conversion?

I'm currently driving in my 4L V6 4x4 access cab '92 ranger. I get 20 mpg on my BEST day. What i want is to convert to diesel. I LOVE my truck. But i do not like gasoline. My goal is to have better fuel economy by switching to diesel. But also having more power. I want to be able to tow. I realize i cant compete with a full size truck (or can i???) but i would like to be able to tow more weight with ease. Which i know diesel can do. But would i have to sacrifise my towing to get the fuel economy? i dont know to much yet. but im hoping to learn! does anyone know of an engine that i could look into to meet me wants?

I have seen a couple rangers. In the past on ebay with 4 cylinder diesels. They had cummins from trucks such as small ups trucks. They were showed to get 40+ mpg. I don't know this from my own experiance just from reading. Also have not read anything on towing with it. I have often wondered about this same swap. I have a 06 powerstroke and im a big fan of the diesels now. Hell I want my 4wheeler to run off of it. Keep us posted as to what you find out.

I am eventually doing a 4bt Cummins swap on my truck.

Just remember that even if you upgrade the drivetrain for the towing, you still have a compact truck suspension/brakes/etc. Just something to think about before you have too big of expectations.

x2 on the 4bt rangers though, a very costly swap but badass none-the-less

you wont be able to tow more but you will be able to tow what the truck is rated at easier.

4bt!
