Diesel options
I have heard that you can istall a cummings 4bt diesel into the rangers. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with that. If so, what criteria need to be met. I'm currently working on a 2.3 turbo setup in my ranger now, but looking for options on the next truck. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Nobody's here done it....
But the order of things needed is the same as any non-stock engine swap. Fab up engine mounts, exhaust, new trans, possible trans x-member, getting your gauges to work(fun fun fun), new shaft made up. Good thing about that engine choice is its all mechanical. Only needs like 5 wires hooked up and it's a runner.
There's a few folks who have dropped the 4BT in a Ranger, but I can't find 'em at the moment..below is a vid of a TheRangerStation.com member's truck. I'm pretty sure he's part of the 4BT swapper forum, http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/index.php. That site might be a good place for you to take a look at.

Re: Diesel options
Just for info and encouraging: in south america rangers are sold with a diesel option (original) since always. The first option was a 2.5 turbo, then 2.8 with a variable turbine, and the newers with a 3.0 turbo. My oppinion? Much more fun with a turbo diesel. Not for highway performance. But nothing compares the torque and long lasting of these.
...But, of course... there's no need to throw away that much of diesel burning in black smoke through the exhaust. Man, go adjust your injector, its not beautifull...

Re: Diesel options
Not sure if this is common knowledge here, but Rangers once were available with a 4-cyl. diesel engine. I've seen ONE of them- it was owned by a Parish (Louisiana's word for counties.) Very basic truck, but I in these days of almost $5.00 gas, I wish I had one.

Re: Diesel options
There is a guy in Leesberg, AL that has a small Cummins in a Ranger.
He is an instructor at a diesel school and did the swap himself.
I have seen him haul some big loads with it.
I have an 87 Ranger that came with the Mitsu diesel in it.

On "Trucks" on "Spike TV" last week there was an episode where they swapped a VW TDi motor into a Suzuki Samurai!
GREAT general info on diesel swaps that you should check out
