| | camaro blown head gaskets
my buddy has a 1996 3.8 v6 camaro and it has blown head gaskets. we got the valve covers off but thats about as far as we could go. so i need to know what to do next. do we take out all the lifters and springs and then the gaskets are right there? i guess i just need to know the process of getting to the gaskets
thanks
-Luc

did you take the intake off yet? that will need to come off before the head will. leave the lifters in the block, and leave the springs on the valves, they dont need to come off.

could u kind of tell me what to take off with this pic? the intake meaning what the intake hose connects to? and once i take that off, the gaskets will be right there? can i put the valve covers back on?

take off the intake then the rockers (the part connecting the pushrod and the spring) then take off the cylinder head bolts then take the heads off and theres the gasket also while you have the heads off nows a perfect time to do a valve a job and clean them off and inspect them

The entire intake manifold has to come off the top of the motor then like was said remove the rockers and then the head bolts, head will come off, get a hanes or chiltons manual it will have step by step instructions

they are diffrent from engine to engine but they are easy to find its the only part touching the pushrod and the valve springs
also get a box or peice of styrofoam and label it with like front of engine or something easy to remember and put the rockers with the bolts in them and the pushrods through the styrofoam or box (just stab it in there) exactly how you remove them from the engine so you can put it back the same way.

Be sure to also replace head bolts. Make sure the gasket areas a really clean. Probably would be a good idea to have a shop look at the heads for warpage and if they need any work. Be sure to change the oil before starting once you're all done because there will probably be coolant in it.
Going to need a basic manual, it will help with the process, but most importantly it contains the torque specs and bolt sequences. You will need a good torque wrench FWIW.
