| | 2.5 diesel refusing to start in the mornings
As above ive just bought my mates 2000 2.5 diesel Ranger, he,s had it now for little over 18mths and its started in the mornings come rain or shine just before I bought it he said it wouldnt start one morning, since it hasnt started without a real struggle of a very little squirt of easy start
the heater relay is working as I can hear it clicking in and out when the little symble goes out on the dash, the glow plugs look like they have been replaced maybe just before he bought it
Ive ordered a full filter kit and will give it a full service when that arrives and have ordered a set of Glow plugs so will fit them is there anything else I should be looking at
once started first thing in the morning it will start and drive perfectly allday long no problems
Any help or advice would be great thanks Rob

unfortunately, the diesel Ranger doesn't exist here in the U.S. but maybe some Ranger diesel owners from south america or your native Europe can chime in and help you.

yeah we're kinda lost when it comes to diesel rangers here in the u.s. They did make them from '83-'86 though, but they had 59hp and 89hp

hi, i also have the same problem with u.
already asked them in this forum. But they seems does not have any idea on Diesel Ranger..lol...so, if u have the solution, do tell us.
My problem starts one morning and it suddenly cannot be start. Then I called my friend to look at it. He said that my glow plug is out. So i bought a new one. But since then, it still the same. I took my ranger to check, they said there is something wrong with the wiring and they took care of it and also they changed my main fuse (60A) dunno where they change.
But u said there is a clicking sound when u turned on the key, but i noticed that there is no clicking sound. could u tell me where is the heater relay? maybe it needs to change..
thanx

I replaced all 4 glow plugs and it starts straight away no problems at all , get someone to turn on the Ignition with the bonet open you will hear the relay click, it is located just behind the battery RHD if theres no click when the ignition is turned on then another about 30 seconds later the relaty is faulty or has no power to it
hope this helps

does it uses a normal relay or special relay? as i see it behind the battery. but when i bought a relay, it seems that it is not a standard relay.it is different.

Have you tried the diesel filter ?? that may be the next step, a clogged filter may cause this aswell

Did you come right?
This was an answer on a local SA forum, lots and lots of diesel Fords here! Quote: |
The glowplugs are controlled by a control box situated in the right kick panel. The c/box receive a signal from IGN and a temp sensor in the cylinder head. It will then activate the relay and current will go to the g/plugs. When the engine is cold the g/plugs will glow untill the engine temp is 60 degC ( light on dashboard will be off) that is called "after glow" and is just to improve combustion . You can test the g/plugs with a 12v test light or multimeter. First test if they do receive 12v . If there is 12v switch off IGN and remove the metal rail on top of the g/plugs. Connect test light clip on battery+ and press with test light on each glowplug. If light come on the glowplug is fine.
