Found a possible bolt in diesel engine....
So after many hard months of finding either a very detailed diesel swap or a drop in option, i think i finnaly found it (with the help of dieseltoys.com) you can use the 2.5 & 3.0 Ford (Mazda is the actual maker) of the tdi engines. They come in quite a bit including the non-american rangers & mazda b-series. Now you can have them(dieseltoys.com) do the swap for you @ 20k+ or if you can find a reman, or new engine (& harness) it sounds like it is basicaly plug & play, with the exception of motor mounts. Now here is where my "research" has failed i can seem to produce and website at all that offers either of thses engines, when i search for the 3.0 it comes up with the u.s. production gasoline engine, and the 2.5 brings up VW, Benz, etc. Now if anyone can find a link for either of these engines i can do the swap, but i cant find the engine, and i dont want to go with the "traditional" 4bt route. I have goofed arround with many options, 5.9, 7.3, 6.0, 5.7, 2.0. all of them with the exception of the VW 2.0 require heavy modification, but the 2.0 is underpowered for a ranger much like the perkins 2.2 in the older rangers. So if any site can be found selling these engines preferribly w/ harness and posted up here would be greatly appreciated

Re: Found a possible bolt in diesel engine....
your best bet is probably going to be sticking with something that was made for the American market. you might save some time as a direct drop in, but you're likely looking at having the components imported from other countries, as well as any replacement/repairs parts that you would need.

Re: Found a possible bolt in diesel engine....
So your saying go with a 4bt or another small engine such as that? Repair wise that would be much cheeper but, I have yet to see a good detailed write up on someone doing a 4bt swap. I would like one to use as a "guide" so i know about what problems i will encounter and what materials/ parts to use. I haven't seen too many other diesel engine swaps besides a 4bt. I have heard of many Kubota & heard of someon thinking about using a Cat. diesel but like i said i haven't seen a good write up for any of these engines. I had at one time thought about a 5.9 maybe from Destroked or another conversion company like that (mainly for full size trucks) but, again as previously stated that is alot of firewall work that i dont care to do...

Re: Found a possible bolt in diesel engine....
An interesting swap would be one of those 4.5l powerstrokes.

Weren't the 4.5's a 6.0 with two cylinders lopped off? I heard they used them in the big diesel vans because a 6.0 wouldnt fit?

Re: Found a possible bolt in diesel engine....
The baby powerstroke was never produced here. If you want to be a hot rodder and put a diesel in a Ranger, it is going to take several thousand dollars, period. A drop in engine isn't going to be possible, unless you buy an overseas ranger. So if you want to save time, money and grief, just do a 4bt. If you have more money then any of us combined, go a different route. This question gets asked a lot, but there really isn't anything else you can do about it except pay for overseas crap that's impossible to find parts for here, or an engine you can find parts for but you are going to have to fabricate a ton of shit, but someone else has already done it and can help you easily put it together. Hate to shoot you down, but until you find that magic outlet...we are all fucked for diesels

Yeah but i still have never seen a good detailed write up for a 4bt because I want a sort of guide or, blueprint if you will, before I dive into something that size.

I'm not quite sure about the problems with them vs the 6.0. Though, If I ever did get a diesel, the emissions system would be the first thing to be removed.
