Hi, I have a questions.
I have no ranger for now, but I can have 2 mitsubishi 2.3 Turbo diesel engine and tranny from the 80's for cheap.
I would like to know if I can put one in a newer ranger generation. (around 1998-2000..)
Are the engine and tranny mount the same?
I need it to be 4x4.
If I get a complete 4x4 2.3 Turbo diesel Ranger, Would it be easier for the swap?

I don't want to go cummins 4bt, or mercedes. I think the 2.3 mitsubishi would be the easiest way to go.

well ranger used to have that engine offered. I guess if can get some of the electrical system of a diesel ranger if should be easier. I think the problem would be the PATS.

I don't think the truck anti-theft is a problem, cause the old 4d55 2.3 diesel don't have ecu, or electrical system. This is not a problem for me.
I can even use a push button to start the engine if the key is a problem.

The information I'm looking for is more like if the engine and tranny from a first generation 2.3 turbo diesel ranger will bolt to the engine mount, driveshaft, transfercase, ect.. of a 3rd or 4th generation 4x4 Ranger.

I can even have a complete 1986 4x4 diesel ranger for parts.

I know it will be very underpowered, but there should be some engine upgrades to help

i THINK they used the same mounts for a 2.3l gas as a 2.3l disel but im not sure , as far as frames go there hasent been to much change in them as far as i know so you should be able to make it work fairly easy i dont know if the older cross memebers fit newer frames or not youll just have to get under there and take some measurements
