Cummins has a "Cummins Repower" program that specifically markets to off roaders and others that have older vehicles, perhaps extensively modified, who need or want a new power plant.
Cummins is now starting to ship the
Cummins R 2.8 Diesel Turbo specifically made for this market. I have a 1998 4WD 3.0 with 185xxx mi. on it running like a top, but I need a plan B when/if it goes. Of interest to me would be the torque gain as I pull a small off road camper trailer and I've made a lot of mods to my truck for extended camping excursions.
At first glance this 500# compact powerplant looks like it would easily fit in a Ranger. Not cheap at MSRP of $9000, but then you get a brand new engine that should last 400,000k or more.
Thoughts? Potential?
