Default Torque value for spark plug installation

Hello again, Ranger Rangers Love the forum.
Just read Vrod21's excellent post on changing spark plugs in the 4.0L

I worry about over-tightening the plugs. He states they should be tightened 1/16 of a rotation. I was thinking of using a torque wrench. Would that be more foolproof?

The box says 15 ft/lbs (which = 180 in/lbs--for my wrench.)

Does this sound excessive?

Due to a bit of rough starting (91K miles) I decided to throw plugs and new upstream O2 sensors at it. Any other inexpensive parts that might help?

Thanks for any consideration.

Plug wires if they haven't been changed, Rockauto.com has good ones for less than anyone else usually. Try cleaning sensors with the proper cleaners and you may consider cleaning the throttle body, they get pretty gummy sometimes. A new PCV helps also. You should address that evap leak, it does affect performance even if you don't feel any affects. Also, I tighten my plugs snug then a little extra bit of a turn, been doing it that way for decades.

^^^^^^^ Listen to us old timers. We never torqued spark plugs, ever.

Thanks for the input. I do have a can of MAF cleaner and one of T-body cleaner. I passed on wires when I placed my RockAuto order (a gaff, because shipping cost isn't trivial) but I will check around the local parts outlets for a set of wires.

Yes, I forgot to mention about rockauto shipping. When I order stuff from them, I try to make sure everything I order comes from the same warehouse to minimize the shipping cost. If you have several items that ship from different warehouses, the cost adds up quick. Same way with Cheaperthandirt.com. Also, if you price things on rockauto with the shipping, sometimes you can get it cheaper or round the same cost at your local store and not have to wait.
