Default Anybody swaped a ecoboost yet?

I have a 2001 XL 4x4 4.0. I wanna swap a crate ecoboost 3.5 my main concerns is keeping the 4x4 should I swap a f-150 transfer case with a floor shifter? Do I need a new diff? What kind of transmission should I buy? Any thoughts are welcome

Nobody has invested the $$$$ to dive in yet that I know of.

You'll see a theme with some of these:
4.0L SOHC to the 3.5 Ecoboost swap
Anyone want to fund an ecoboost swap xD
3.6L EcoBoost in a Ranger
Ecoboost Ranger
Swapping 4.0 V6 for new 3.5L Ecoboost

Plus, that crate engine alone runs over $8,000......nobody here has pulled that trigger.

Worth more than most rangers currently on the market.

People with that kind of coin would rather get an f150 or any other full size/midsize that was designed in this century.

I would go with a coyote 302 before an ecoboost. My 2014 5.0 F150 hauls butt and it's 2.5 tons.

You'll spend more money on trying to get that engine to even fit in the engine bay than you would to build the current 4.0 in it to make more power. Not only is the 3.5 massive (4 valves per cylinder, wider cylinder heads) but you'll probably have to relocate the turbos, considering the exhaust manifolds on a 4.0 are already ridiculously close to the frame on a ranger. Not only that, but the ecoboost uses a high pressure fuel pump, so you'll need to change the fuel system out as well.

The ecoboost uses a cam driven high pressure pump and a regular in tank pump similar to the older f150s

Hmm, I thought it was one unit. Makes sense though, less to change when spec'd with different engines.

That's just the nature of direct injected engines. Same basic principle as a diesel. There's a lift pump in the tank that only serves its purpose to get fuel to the high pressure fuel pump driven by the cam. That turns the 50ish psi into something like 5,000 psi. Not sure exactly. I know it's low like that on a gasoline engine. (The stuff I work on runs at like 35,000psi)

Then it transfers that pressure to the rail and then the injectors through high pressure steel lines. It's actually pretty cool how it works.

A little dangerous to work with. But pretty cool.

So much to agree with here... Where i would have to say I envy anyone willing to do so, I think COG would be just to purchase the least expensive trim level F150 with an ecoboost and we'll miss you going to the F150 forums.. lol
