Default 1L 3 cylinder ecoboost swap in ranger

Hello I am posting this because i found a crashed 2014 fiesta with the 3 cylinder ecoboost and i am wonder if any one has thought of this swap since it makes about the same amount hp and torque to the 2.3 duratec found in most rangers

the main reason to consider this swap is fuel economy and weight reduction

I don't think you can reasonably justify all that wiring mess and custom modification for "just better mileage"

If you want better mileage, give your MAF and IAC a good spray, new wires, plugs, coil pack, fuel + air filter and lay off the skinny pedal.

That's always a good investment.

its because i like the idea of the truck being less front heavy and the tuning capabilities of turbo engines

Not sure where you're from but the 1.0 eco wasn't offered in 2014...

Foud a crashed fiseta with
one at the wreckers in phoenix

----------

most of the engine components were in good shape except the intercooler

----------

i know these engines have decent power
and as a daily driver i think its ideal for the ranger

Gonna need to pretty much gut all the electrical out of the car along with the drivetrain. Plus that drivetrain is fwd so you're gonna have to figure out how to convert it to rwd, not to mention the fab work and wiring to make it fit and work. Not gonna be cheap.

You won't get much better gas mileage than you're already getting. It's still a 3500-4000 lb truck at the end of the day. You'll spend more than the truck is worth to get a FWD engine shoehorned into a RWD ranger.

To me the point of the swap is to reduce weight in the front and see how much reliable power i can get out of that turbo engine, plus guessing the dimensions most of the engine would be behind the front axle i assume?

Well, the 2.3 Duratec weighs about 220. That's pretty light.
The 4.0 & 5.0 weigh in about 440.

So there's that.

I think it would be unique, but it's a bit unorthodox from the rest of the motor swaps into Rangers. Which is why you're on your own with this one.

Well if you were to somehow find a RWD transmission for that engine it would sit right on top of where the front axle would be. Literally, on 4x4 Rangers the engine mounts share the same subframe piece as the front axle. You probably won't get much more out of that 3cyl since it's already making 100+ hp out of something the size of a medium Mountain Dew. Just turbo your 2.3. People make a shitload of power out of those 2.3's.

Yeah the 4.0 is a heavy bitch. I was shocked. When I had it on the engine stand, you could see the stand flexing and bouncing. Scared the shit outta me.

Exactly.

All you have to do is make the two bitches walk and your truck just went from a 5.0 to a 2.3

Weight reduction bruh.

The 3 cylinder ecoboost weighs about 215 pounds with all accessories in place including the turbo

I guess that's what you get when you have a cast iron block and OHC's

Still think you should consider throwing a turbo on a 2.3.. After all the money you'll spend to put a 3cylinder into your truck you could have a 400+ hp ranger and a down payment on a steam locomotive.

if i want a Fast Vehicle Ill Just Put 2jz-gte in my lexus Is300
the three cylinder idea is really more of a project idea since the specs of the duratec and the ecoboost are similar
