Default Trucks acting funny!!!!

Ok so my trucks acting alil odd lately if the trucks cold on first start up it will have a miss, I'll either let it idle or hold it at about 2k and it will start to run fine but smell rich an it's kind of hit and miss most of the time it will do it other times starts right up with no issues, and it's also doing this thing where if it's at running temp (190 thermostat) and I shut it off and it sits for 15 min or less I would say apon restart it puffs out a good size cloud of white sweet smelling smoke that lingers for awhile and that's it doesn't smoke any other time. Doesn't seem to be sucking water or mixing fluids or going thru oil more than usual so any ideas guys? So far I have thought maybe small crack in headgasket or maybe the turbo is leaking coolant internaly any suggestions or possiable ways to figure this out would be greatly apprecaited. I would really like to fix his before it becomes a major issue

yeah....i've had the same issue except for the smoke

just after cold start ups i can't go WOT until it warms up otherwise it will miss and spit and sputter. but once it warms up....no problems at all.

i started by changing the coolant temp sensor.......next is O2 sensors

do you have any codes? if you dont have any codes I doubt it is your o2 sensors. You should do a COMPLETE( INCLUSES CLEANING TB, MAF, IACV, ETC) tunup, only use autolite or motorcraft plugs and wires and CHANGE YOUR FUEL FILTER.

Sounds like headgasket. If you are losing coolant and cant see it in your oil or on the ground, its more than likely getting burnt up in the exhaust. That would explain the sweet smelling smoke. My ex's vibe did the same thing. Didnt throw codes and ran just about fine, a miss here and there...but after about a month or two after the missing started the coolant started disappearing real fast. headgasket was cracked and the head warped....Take it to a shop and have them put test it. The mechanic we took it to had this chemical. He took the cap off the radiator and replaced it with this cylinder that he filled with this chemical...It turned green a few minutes after running and he said that it meant exhaust was getting in the coolant or something like that...$1300 later it never leaked coolant again.

sounds like a head gasket to me as well. BUT it could also be an internal coolant leak on the turbo.

i'm leaning more towards heads though.

I dont get why people on here keep saying this...I use NGK plugs and BWD wires, and my truck runs great and pretty fuel efficient for a 4.0

I know it's not plugs/wires/gps/fuelfilter/or iac, Thursday I'm going to replace the intake manifold gasket since water runs threw my intake and the jack runs right between cylinders 2&3 so if he gaskets bad could be getting water in the cylinder(s) that way if that doesn't fix it then changing the headgasket friday

I don't wanna break the continuity of the thread, but perhaps you found an exeption or created a good match. I suppose just randomly picking aftermarket wires and plugs can create resistance or electrical interferance issues. I have even read about actual mechanical issues when using other plugs causing piston contact.

I don't know for sure either. But I do hear alot about hard to solve engine problems being caused by AM plugs alone, let alone plug/wires.

I would imagine it was probably caused by improper installation or something...Maybe they tried to gap the pregapped plugs and fucked them up. I know we almost did on the 4.0 because the NGK's werent labelled as pregapped, but called the parts store and they said they were all pregapped. Forgot what my wires were on my 3.0, but I know they werent autolite or motorcraft and I never had problems with them either.
