Question Motorcraft vs autolite

I inadvertently stepped into a steaming pile of s#*t when I shared my experiences with autolite spark plugs in Ford products. After quickly learning that this was a sensitive and heated topic, I decided to do some research on line and share my findings. I would like find out more information on the topic since I am frequently asked questions and would like to provide the best possible answers.

My experience have shown me that older Fords would run great on autolite, but the newer ones do not. Below I am pasting my findings from my search. I would love to hear some feedback on the issue.

thanks

PASTED FROM INTERNET SEARCH:

"As a division of the Honeywell Corporation, Autolite is the manufacturer responsible for the production of all Motorcraft spark plugs in North America for the Ford Motor Company. Both Autolite and Ford/Motorcraft spark plugs are built to quality standards using quality components. Autolite manufacture's the Motorcraft plugs based on the specific design requirements of the Ford Motor Company. Autolite and Motorcraft spark plugs are manufactured side-by-side at our facility in Northern Ohio."

I notice in the email Dave got back from Honeywell that nowhere do they claim that the Autolite plugs are manufactured to Ford specs

Until 2011, the Autolite brand was a part of Honeywell's Automotive Consumer Products Group, along with Fram and Prestone. Since then, it has been manufactured and marketed by FRAM Group, LLC

Last year I contacted Autolite and asked them the same question. They told me Honeywell Industries owns Allied Signal, which in turn makes Autolite spark plugs. They also make Motorcraft, but to Fords specifications, unlike Autolites, which are made to different specifications.I tried using Autolites in my truck and it sneezed, weezed, coughed, and just plain ran like sh**! I then removed them and put factory Motorcrafts back in and its been running smooth as silk since!

Fair enough. IMO my 97 ranger with the 3.0 runs like a fat kid at a track meet with autolites. I had all brand new autolites, put a honda 300ex in my bed and hauled her up to Michigan which is about 2.5 hours for me. And by the time I got there, cylinders 2,3,5 were all misfiring. Drove it back down with misfiring cylinders and the 4 wheeler because 3 liters are work horses. Then I put in motorcraft plugs and it ran just fine. Did the same thing about 3 weeks later and I had no problems.
