I got a new toy!
1980 Buick Skylark V6 4door
This was my grandfather's car. I decided to restore it rather than letting it rot in the woods. It cranked believe or not after sitting for 8 years. A new battery and the mother cranked! LOL! Although, that doesn't mean it is running condition.

Re: I got a new toy!
Ah the 80s, last years of real car making.
Now it's all about plastic, electronic gadgets and the next best thing.

Re: I got a new toy!
Nice. Looks like it just needs a little tlc. Not bad for sitting for 8 years!

I've got a 75 Buick Lesabre with a 350 Rocket in it, I love old Buicks. Looks like you can clean her up just fine! I love my car, great for cruising to the bar!

Re: I got a new toy!
I picked up this 85 Olds 3 years ago. paid $200 for it. sat under a tree for nearly 10 years. dropped a battery and fuel pump in it. fired right now.
have been driving it since. i've dropped a lot of money into it getting it running well, but wouldn't be afraid to drive it across country tomorrow. still has less than 90k original miles.

Re: I got a new toy!
So far,
New spark plugs
New spark plug wires
New fuel filter
New pcv valve
New air filter
New tires
New oil filter
Dash cover
Repainted interior trim
New window handles
New dome lens
New floor mats
New Seat cover
New oxygen sensor
New oil
Drained old gas and replinished with new
I mainly did this to see it all myself. I will update with more pictures soon if anyone is interested in my progress. It feels good knowing I did it all myself. Next on my list is to get after sanding the paint. I am gonna take it to a real mechanic and let them do their thing also. Really, just to check out my work. LOL!

Re: I got a new toy!
you may want to pull the gas tank out and look for rust on the inside. also, a problem we had with ours, after sitting that long, the baffling in the tank (plastic) was gone. so whenever we would stop, the car would stall. put a new tank in and problem solved.

As of now, it is running and starting great. The only problem I'm having seems to be when I get around 35 or 40 it seems it has trouble shifting. I have heard that if you service the trans of an old car it will cause problems. I don't want problems. LOL! Trying to deal with that today.

or just take the old one out, pour some chassis saver in it, twist it around to coat the whole inside, drain excess, let sit and dry, bam! youve got a new tank

i didn't have a problem with rust. mine was pretty clean, just the baffle that goes around the fuel pump was gone. it was plastic and it just shattered after so many years. so whenever i would stop, the fuel would run away from the pump. bought a new tank off ebay for less than $100. has a metal baffle around the pump.
i had problem with the transmission after a short while 3rd started going out. ended up getting it rebuilt.
